Camping Program
- Year 1 Dinner and Year 2 Sleepover
During Term 3, students in Year 1 and 2 share in an evening meal and entertainment as part of the Rosanna Primary camping program. The evening continues for students in Year 2 as they roll out their sleeping bag, pump up their mattresses and arrange their teddies for a sleepover in Chandler Hall. The evening is a significant movement towards independence which many students name as a highlight of the year. - Year 3/4 Camp (every second year)
- Year 5/6 Camp (annual)
Chess
Visit Rosanna on a Wednesday afternoon and you will meet a large number of students participating in the weekly Chess Club. During the term, students enjoy visiting local schools and participating in regular interschool competitions. Further information about the inter-school chess competitions or membership of our chess club can be found in our newsletter or by picking up a flyer at the front office. In addition to these sessions and competitions, our fantastic giant chess set outside the 3-6 building is a popular place to practise. A cost is associated with this program.

- Sustainability Agents
The Sustainability Agents at Rosanna Primary School are elected by their peers to make sustainable decisions and have an active involvement in many sustainable practices within the school.
- RPS Community Garden
Our community garden contains 8 vegetable gardens filled with a diverse range of vegetables, herbs and fruits, compost bins and a worm farm. Our student gardening club meets once a week to work with members of our school community to maintain the gardens.
Since 2014, hundreds of native plants and trees have been planted in our school grounds.
- RPS Ride2School Program
We support and encourage our students to walk or wheel to school as students feel happier, healthier and perform better in the classroom when actively travelling. We celebrate active travel regularly throughout the year. Students and their families are encouraged to leave the car at home on these days and get a taste of the benefits, ease and fun involved in choosing to walk and wheel to school. In 2014 we received a bike parking award from Bicycle Network for our commitment to active travel. Students have access to our bike racks, which is surrounded by artwork created by students and members of our school community.
- Recycling Initiatives
We have a four bin system in every classroom in our school. To ensure our waste is managed correctly, it is sorted into organic waste, paper/cardboard, co-mingled recycling and landfill. Our organic waste fills our compost bins, feeds our chickens and creates nutritious fertiliser for our gardens. We encourage students to bring rubbish free lunches every day to minimise the negative effects of waste on our environment. During 2015 we worked hard to consolidate our waste practices and secured the services of a new waste contractor. As a result, we were shortlisted as a finalist for Waste School of the Year in the ResourceSmart schools awards.
- Chickens
In a joint project between the Junior School Council and the Sustainability team, we have constructed a fantastic coop and run which is now home to our school chickens. The students care for the chickens, keeping their home clean, feeding and engaging with the birds. We also enjoy the fresh eggs that we sell to the community to fund the chicken project. - Environment and Sustainability in the Curriculum
Through inquiry based learning our students explore and investigate sustainable practices. Through hands on activities, students apply what they have learnt to improve the sustainability practices at school.
