The Rosanna Primary Camping Program is designed to foster independence and resilience in students through a carefully sequenced and supportive experience, beginning with introductory activities for the youngest students and progressively increasing in challenge and responsibility as they move through the school years.

Prep Breakfast
Each year, the youngest students arrive early in their pyjamas to begin their camping adventure with an early breakfast. They feast on cereal and pancakes and a day of fun activities in their pyjamas.

Year 1 – A Taste of Independence
Students in Year 1 return to school one evening to enjoy a dinner together with Year 2 students. This is followed by a fun show. Last year, we enjoyed an amazing magician while a pupeteer has entertained students in the past.

Year 2 – Introduction to Camping
For the Year 2 students, the camping experience starts with a low-key, sleepover in the school hall. This early experience is designed to be non-threatening, with a focus on building confidence and familiarity with a stay away from home. After dinner and a show, the Year 2 students stay for a wildlife night walk prior to a movie and bed.

Years 3 and 4 – Building Confidence and Skills
As students move into the middle primary years, the camping program begins to introduce more challenging activities. Held every second year, this camp provides a three day camp expereince and outdoor exploration. Activities aim to foster independence and collaboration, with students encouraged to make decisions and solve problems in a supportive, structured environment. Staff continue to provide guidance while gradually stepping back to allow for more autonomy.

Years 5 and 6 – Adventure, Leadership and Independence
In Years 5 and 6, students are expected to demonstrate greater levels of responsibility and challenge. The adventure component of the camp becomes more prominent, with activities focussed on safe challenges. These activities are designed to build students’ resilience, decision-making, and ability to work collaboratively under pressure. Teachers provide ongoing support but also encourage students to take ownership of their experience. They are given greater freedom in decision-making, and encouraged to reflect on their experiences, learning from challenges and successes alike.
The school heavily subsidizes the cost of these camping experiences to ensure they are accessible to all students, regardless of family circumstances. This commitment reflects Rosanna Primary’s dedication to providing inclusive, enriching outdoor education that fosters both personal and social development. Through this progression of increasingly challenging activities, the program helps students develop independence, leadership, and resilience, all while ensuring their safety and wellbeing.
