Rosanna Primary School students were lucky enough to have Ken Williams, author of 'Annabel's Chewy-Gooey Birthday Cake,' visit on Wednesday. The session began with students helping to read the story using musical instruments to make sound effects.
Ken spoke about the importance of creating a main character that the reader can relate to when writing a story - if people don't like the character, they won't keep reading. He also spoke about the skill of 'Show, don't tell.' That is, you need to use words to make the reader feel like they are right there in the story ... that it is actually happening to them! These are challenging tasks but RPS students will definitely try their best.
The whole event aimed to excite and inspire students for the Book of the Year competition and it definitely worked! Creative juices were flowing back in the classroom as we continued the writing process. We can't wait to see the finished products!
