![]() ...introducing the coolest author in the world...KEN WILLIAMS!! Rosanna Primary School students were lucky enough to have Ken Williams, author of 'Annabel's Chewy-Gooey Birthday Cake,' visit on Wednesday. The session began with students helping to read the story using musical instruments to make sound effects. Ken spoke about the importance of creating a main character that the reader can relate to when writing a story - if people don't like the character, they won't keep reading. He also spoke about the skill of 'Show, don't tell.' That is, you need to use words to make the reader feel like they are right there in the story ... that it is actually happening to them! These are challenging tasks but RPS students will definitely try their best. The whole event aimed to excite and inspire students for the Book of the Year competition and it definitely worked! Creative juices were flowing back in the classroom as we continued the writing process. We can't wait to see the finished products! ![]() Change seems to be a theme this week at Rosanna Primary. While the demolition of the old building is changing the shape of our playground, our 2015 Preps are celebrating 100 days of school today! A special thanks to parents and teachers, as well as students for managing this significant event so well. Today parents crammed into classrooms, ate cake and joined in the festivities of this important milestone. We're looking forward to the feast prepared by our families and friends at lunch and especially tasting that remarkable cake! Students have awed and gasped as excavators tore apart our old building this week. Our School Council has been lobbying for many years to have this dilapidated building removed and the equipment arrived this week! We all marveled at the large powerful equipment that crashed and crunched through the building. Cheers of "Knock it down" echoed throughout the playground this afternoon as the final section was demolished. The really wonderful outcome of the week were the wondering questions that spontaneously emerged in discussions. We hope that such questions will continue to shape us and our learning into the future.
What a week these leaders of learning have had! They will be awarded with certificates and ribbons this Monday!
Oliver M (PP), Thalia B (PW), Chloe P (P1V), James X (P1V), Amy F (12A), Anthony B (12R), Alveena H (12R), Abbie A (12U), Tyler S (12W), Joshua W (34S), Natalia P (34S), Amber (34G), Emma (34W), Blake A (45B) and Nikita (56T). It's that time again...Book of the Year 2015! Students' imaginations are bubbling away trying to think of the best idea for their very own book. Each student will go through the entire process of creating their book: brainstorming, drafting, editing, publishing, illustrating, constructing and presenting a book. Once students have finished their books they will be judged and shortlisted in order to find the best book from each grade level. The event will culminate with an open session for the whole community to enjoy all the amazing imagination and hard work that has gone into everyone's work. We're excited!!!!
![]() It's hard to believe that Rosanna Primary could be colder but the temperature dropped as students rehearsed some very cool dance moves! Classes moved and grooved as they were introduced to the Footsteps Dance workshops today. It was a wonderfully creative time where students learned a range of movements to music. Everyone is looking forward to the ongoing development of their routines. The dance lessons will culminate in an evening disco towards the end of the term. Some students laughed while others scratched their heads. Everybody participated in what was a very practical exploration of maths today. There were a range of puzzles and problems exploring very practical maths and concepts. Many parents took the opportunity to share in the questions and learning which added to the experience for all. Students from Years 5 and 6 will have an opportunity to attend tomorrow. Make sure you ask your children their best activity, mine was the box stacking!
