Term Winds Up with A Bang

28/6/2015

The term exploded with dance, presentations, our band performance, percussion group and a number of farewells. Thanks to all our Junior Student Councillors who have contributed over the first semester as well as the Sustainability Agents. New opportunities to fill these roles will be open in semester 2.

A reminder that the playground will be transformed with the removal of the 'old building' over the holidays and into term 3. A range of heavy equipment that will be sharing the site has meant the lower portion of the playground has been fenced off. Over the holidays asbestos removal will take place so community members are asked to stay offsite. The gates will be locked and a letter box drop has taken place to inform our neighbours.

We hope the holidays are full of learning and wondering about our remarkable world. School will return on Monday 13th July.

3/4 Area Showcase Their Learning

28/6/2015

Students in 34W, 34G and 34S stunned their peers in Year 1 and 2 with their learning by hosting a visit and display on their inquiry unit entitled 'Sun, earth and Moon'. For those who visited the Year 3/4 exhibition it was an opportunity to ask questions, read and be a part of some demonstrations that highlighted learning this term. There were models of volcanoes as well as the various levels of the Earth's crust. A poster explored the initial landing on the moon while a diorama gave clear insight into the phases of the moon. Students in the 1/2 classes were wowed by the great work and left asking many more questions about our planetary bodies.

World Environment Day

22/6/2015

Some might have noticed something different today! Rosanna Primary was transformed into a zoo in support of the work WWF do for our environment. Students were replaced by a collection of wild beasts including; cows, giraffes, pigs, hippos, bats, foxes and even a couple of dragons and a unicorn! It was a great way to remind ourselves that the environment needs our support. While a gold coin donation was offered by students to the WFF students also participated in cleaning up the playground and kept our school tidy by emptying the recycle bins.

Students from the 34 area thought deeply about ways to care for the environment and hung wishes for the future on our river redgum. Parents are invited to read and even add their own wish as they pass what is quickly growing into a mature redgum. It's presence, at the very heart of our school, is a constant reminder of our connectedness with our natural world. Don't miss the opportunity to pass by and read the wishes of our inspiring students - the tree will move on very soon.

A special thanks to the sustainability team for their ongoing enthusiasm and organisation of the day!

Well done to our wonderful netballers who achieved great things today. Both A and B teams were successful in winning the Heidelberg District Grand Final. It is starting to look like a pattern as this is the second year in a row we have taken out the title. Well done to all participants and for Mrs Lambert for her passionate encouragement.

Meanwhile there is talk to start training for 2016!

A Note to Home - 56 Campers

Tuesday
Although the buses left Rosanna Primary in rain they arrived in Ballarat at Soveriegn Hill in clear weather. Students panned for gold, gave the appropriate oohs and aahs during the gold pouring. Most were a little nervous but adventurous enough to head down into a mine to learn more about the discover of the Welcome Nugget. Classes visited a classroom of the 1850’s where they dressed up and explored the clothing of people at the time. They played games relevant to the era as well as tried their hand at some ink and quill writing!

Wednesday
Students participated in a wide range of learning experiences such as hut building, a low ropes course, the big swing, archery, bike education as well as orienteering. For many it was an opportunity to push beyond their own barriers and choose new challenges.

The night took on life and energy as students donned dress ups and enjoyed 'Rosanna Idol'. The were a broad collection of different acts involving dances, fairytale and movie characters, jokes, quizzes and skits. There was even a special guest judge, Dumbledore!  It was a wonderful opportunity to glimpse the talents of so many of our students.

Thursday
The sun and corellas greeted us this morning as we continued to complete a range of activities. As I write students are cocooned in their sleeping bags awaiting a movie. We have enjoyed a wonderfully full few days and, though the weather has been cold, the laughter, new challenges and friendships have warmed us all.

See you all tomorrow.

Thanks to Our Working Bees

The sun was out and an army of volunteers arrived to ensure our Working Bee was a great success. People mowed lawns, removed dead trees, pruned bushes, renewed vegie patches, cleared gutters, swept paths, as well as moved pavers, tennis nets and bricks. We were able to clear up much of the oval as well as complete a wide range of other jobs on our main site. There was a frenzy of activity that ensure our school was left sparkling. A special thanks to all those adults and children who gave their valuable time and effort in support of the school. It was a great effort that demonstrated the strength of relationships within our school.
