![]() Students in 34S were surprised this term when a special guest arrived! The class were very fortunate to have a visit from 'Charly' a salt water crocodile. The visit was made possible by staff contacts with educational groups offering contact with wildlife within schools throughout Victoria. The visit was a wonderful reminder about the surprising nature of learning and an opportunity to wonder about the world in which we all live! A wonderful well done to all those who travelled to school over the last two weeks by bike, scooter or under the power of their own two feet. Students not only embraced the National Bike2School Day but have continued to travel under their own steam. A special thanks to Jean for joining with students to creatively decorate the bike racks and to the students themselves for the hours of work throughout their lunchtimes. Our bike space is certainly shaping into a wonderful reminder about the fun that can be generated by a healthy lifestyle.
Students in 56S and 56T were challenged to wonder at number patterns as they were introduced to magic squares in the last weeks of term 2! it was a wonderful lesson exploring not only these 3x3 squares but also the great history of mathematical thinkers. Magic squares have stimulated mathematical minds for thousands of years and it was wonderful to see our Rosanna students join in exploring them with their own fascination. Here are only a few of the patterns that students uncovered as they explored the possibilities.
This is an opportunity that every parent should experience. Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) are the Australian experts at not only understanding the complexities of online dangers but also in proposing some significant actions parents can take to ensure every child is safe online. It will be an opportunity to hear from those in the know about the current realities of childrens' online behaviours and how parents might respond.
Please consider your participation in this event carefully. Registration forms can be found at ACMA Cyber Safety Visit to Rosanna Primary. Some rode their bikes while others scooted through Rosanna Streets. Bikes crammed into our bike racks that were especially decorated for the occasion. Some even found themselves in classrooms! Everyone who participated agreed it was a wonderful response to National Ride to School Day. A special thanks to all those who joined in organising the day, especially the Sustainability Group. ![]() We are extraordinarily fortunate to be nestled into such beautiful natural surrounds yet sometimes we take it for granted. On Tuesday students in years 3 and 4 were enjoying their PE lesson when some squawking in the tree above disturbed them. They were thrilled to see a visiting family of gang gang cockatoos feeding above them, their radiant red heads against their black bodies enjoying the sunshine. A wonderful discussion on bird life in the area ensued. Learning really is all around us. Learn more about Gang Gangs at Birds in Backyards. ![]() On Tuesday 11th March, all 5/6 students went over to Macleod College for an art and technology day. All the 5/6 students participated in some cool and exciting activities which were ceramics, metal work, wood work and screen printing, At screen printing, we used oil pastels (with art smocks of course) to make lovely pictures and used spray cans to add different layers of back grounds. Then we put a stamp (lion or whale, I chose the whale) on the front, and they looked REALLY cool. But all were cool in a way, like their patterns, where they put the stamps , and the way the colour stood out At metalwork, (my favourite) we had to make little things (fish, hearts, skulls , initials and much more!) using tin, but very thin enough to bend … and do tiny cuts. But it was much harder than you would think! It had lots of cutting slits, folding parts, decorating and drawing. I was amazed by what people had made. Like a Batman symbol!! Mine was a man, and that man was me! At ceramics/pottery, we made simple pinch pots, but then used them to make something else! Some of the things I saw were: monsters, faces, a Statue of Liberty and Excalibur scenes. I built an Excalibur scene myself. All the other creations were excellent. We also had a sausage sizzle, luckily everyone had 2 each, even. Thanks Macleod College for their time to set up an excellent day! Daniel Year 6
If you know of friends or families considering enrolling a child into Prep in 2016 please encourage them to give the office a ring. A range of wonderful opportunities are planned so both parents and children can experience some of the fun and learning shared in our learning community.
